چکیده
Abstract Torsion tests provide important shear stress and strain relationships to reveal the fundamental plastic flow response of a material. Bespoke torsion techniques complemented by digital image correlation are developed accurately measure stress–strain relationship at quasi-static, medium rate 9/s, high above 1000/s. The equipment used includes screw-driven mechanical system, hydraulic Instron machine Campbell thin-walled tube split Hopkinson bar equipped with an ultrahigh-speed camera. A near alpha Ti3Al2.5V alloy was as model material in this study. four-camera system has been constructed monitor deformation failure during low test, gain further insight into tubular specimen. Shear exhibits noticeable sensitivity. Observations hardening evolution indicate that capacity is both dependent. High torsional shows lower hardening, compared obtained from compression present demonstrated be suitable for measurement pure constitutive relationship, including sensitivity

Colloidal gels under shear: Strain rate effects
Attractive colloidal particles are trapped in metastable states such as colloidal gels at high attraction strengths and attractive glasses and high volume fractions. Under shear such states flow via a two step yielding process that relates to bond and cluster or cage breaking. We discuss the way the structural properties and related stress response are affected by the shear rate. At low rates c...
متن کاملStrain Rate Effect on Tensile Behavior for a High Specific Strength Steel: From Quasi-Static to Intermediate Strain Rates
The strain rate effect on the tensile behaviors of a high specific strength steel (HSSS) with dual-phase microstructure has been investigated. The yield strength, the ultimate strength and the tensile toughness were all observed to increase with increasing strain rates at the range of 0.0006 to 56/s, rendering this HSSS as an excellent candidate for an energy absorber in the automobile industry...
متن کاملThe mechanical response of pure iron at high strain rates under dominant shear
The mechanical behavior and microstructure of pure iron subjected to dominant shear loading has been characterized over a wide range of train rates. Pure iron is found to be highly strain-rate sensitive. Iron exhibits marked strain softening at ε̇ ≈ 8000 s−1 − σ ≈ 850 MPa that is nexpected for the annealed material, as characterized by TEM, but is identical to that of iron preshocked at 40 GPa [...
متن کاملPlatelet function under high shear conditions.
Blood platelets are the first line of defense against bleeding and as such involved in the haemostatic repair of damaged vasculature. Their true prowess seems to be displayed under high shear conditions where platelets interact with a variety of plasma proteins, all of which are tightly regulated to close the leak but at the same time prevent lumen occlusion and thromboembolism. The first task ...
متن کاملPure shear axes and elastic strain energy
It is well known that a state of pure shear has distinct sets of basis vectors or coordinate systems: the principal axes, in which the stress σ is diagonal, and pure shear bases, in which diagσ = 0. The latter is commonly taken as the definition of pure shear, although a state of pure shear is more generally defined by trσ = 0. New results are presented that characterize all possible pure shear...
